Jury-based federal cultural film funding for the production of new, outstanding feature, documentary and children's films with special artistic and creative quality. Films must have a minimum length of 79 minutes (59 minutes for children's films). The funding requires significant German cultural character, defined by criteria including German language dialogue or nationality/residence of director and producer in Germany, EU/EEA or Switzerland, substantial German financial participation, and regular cinema first release in Germany. Feature films must have production costs up to €6 million; documentary films up to €5 million. Shooting or animation work must not have begun before application. Regular cinema first release requires seven consecutive days of screenings in at least one German cinema (within one month for documentary films).
