What it is

Federal cultural development funding for screenwriters to develop treatments or screenplays for feature films, documentary films, or children's films. Treatment funding supports development from idea to treatment stage. Screenplay funding is two-phased: phase one develops treatment to first draft screenplay; phase two (upon producer attachment and €10,000 producer contribution) develops to production-ready screenplay. Funds are to cover author living expenses during development, not screenplay fees.

Who it is for

Screenwriters who have previously had a produced screenplay, published literary work, won significant prizes, or are working with an established producer can apply for treatment or screenplay development funding.

Open to artists in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands and others.

What you get

Non-repayable grants to cover living expenses during development: up to €15,000 for treatment development (plus optional €2,500 for consulting), or up to €40,000 for screenplay development in two phases (€25,000 per phase for complex animation projects), plus optional €10,000 for consulting services.
