What it is

On The Move is recruiting eight independent researchers to update its Cultural Mobility Funding Guide for Africa, mapping regular mobility funding schemes at country, regional and international level available for incoming and outgoing mobility across the 54 African countries. Each researcher covers one geographic cluster and conducts web-based research to identify, verify and document funding opportunities, producing a policy-oriented guide in English and French.

Who it is for

Independent researchers based on the African continent with prior experience in research, mapping, data collection and documentation, preferably in cultural sectors, cultural policy, or international mobility.

Open to artists in Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi and others.

What you get

A contract fee ranging from €1,640 to €4,100 depending on the covered countries in the assigned cluster, for web-based research conducted from mid-November 2026 to March 2027.

What you need to apply

• Proof of being based on the African continent, ideally within or with demonstrated knowledge of the assigned cluster and its cultural ecosystem, institutional landscape, mobility context and funding environment
• Evidence of prior experience in research, mapping, data collection, documentation or comparable assignments, preferably in the cultural and creative sectors, cultural policy, international mobility, funding or related fields
• Demonstrated experience conducting multi-source and/or multi-country research, including identification, verification and documentation of reliable and up-to-date web-based information
• Strong ability to identify, assess, cross-check and reference information from authoritative sources, particularly institutional websites of public authorities, cultural organisations, funding bodies and professional networks
• Strong organisational skills and demonstrated ability to work independently, apply a common research methodology, manage a defined workload and meet strict deadlines
• Proficiency in English as working language; additional language proficiency including French required given cluster composition
