The Sankofa Art Residency is a 6-week hybrid creative incubator rooted in the West African principle of Sankofa (returning to the past to reclaim what was forgotten). Artists explore personal and ancestral narratives while developing new work within a supportive global cohort. The first five weeks feature virtual workshops, cohort circles, artist talks, and studio prompts via Microsoft Teams. The program culminates in an overnight in-person graduation ceremony July 24-25, 2027 in Los Angeles featuring private cohort gatherings, communal meals, closing rituals, and celebration activities.
